Discovering the Davidoff Escurio: A not so mild journey.
Greetings, cigar aficionados! Welcome to another edition of my cigar review blog. I'm Julyo, and today I'm thrilled to delve into the world of Davidoff cigars with a detailed look at the Davidoff Escurio. This cigar stands as a unique exception in the Davidoff lineup, known typically for milder, entry-level cigars. If you’re seeking something with a richer profile, the Escurio might be the cigar for you.
Cigar Overview
The Davidoff Escurio is crafted primarily with tobacco sourced from Brazil, promising an intriguing blend that many cigar enthusiasts will find appealing. Introduced as part of Davidoff’s “Black Label” series, the Escurio aims to bring more intensity and complexity to the brand’s portfolio. Its name is a blend of “Escuro,” meaning “dark” in Portuguese—reflecting the dark Brazilian wrapper—and “Rio,” referencing the vibrant nightlife of Rio de Janeiro that inspired the cigar’s lively and unexpected flavor journey.
This isn’t the typical Davidoff cigar in terms of strength; it’s richer and more assertive. It's a cigar you would want to pair with sweeter treats like chocolate donuts or pastries, best enjoyed in the middle of the day. Its nature makes it unsuitable for breakfast or evening relaxation.
Initial Impressions
As I embarked on this smoking experience, I cut and lit up this beauty, eager to share my impressions. Right from the beginning, the construction of the cigar was up to the usual high standards associated with Davidoff. Despite the slightly uneven burn—a result of a windy day, not the cigar's fault—the flavor profile began to unfold beautifully.
Flavor Journey
Midway through the cigar, the taste matured fully into an inviting blend of coffee and oak, complemented by a persistent hint of white pepper. This peppery note remained a consistent thread throughout the smoking experience. The Escurio has a near-full body, with the Brazilian tobacco impeccably enriching its character.
Conclusion
After about 45 to 50 minutes of smoking, the Escurio proved to be a delightful companion, pairing excellently with the sweets I chose. Although it diverges from the typical Davidoff experience, with its near-full-bodied profile, it offers enjoyable and consistent flavors throughout. While it may not make it to my top favorite list, the Escurio is definitely a cigar I would revisit, particularly for a leisurely break during summertime or a holiday afternoon, right after a delightful lunch.
Thank you for joining me on this flavorful journey. Until next time, happy smoking!
