Back in May 2024, I was working with Irish pop sensation Robert O’Connor when he mentioned he was heading to a concert in London. Knowing Davidoff of London still had the amazing E.P. Carrillo Triumph Trilogy Sampler, I couldn't resist asking him to snag one for me and bring it back to rainy Dublin.
The "Triumph" sampler by Ernesto Perez Carrillo is a real eye-catcher in its luminous royal blue. It’s the perfect color choice, as these three cigars truly solidify Ernesto's spot among the cigar kings. Not many producers can put together such an elegant sampler with this level of prestige. Inside this little treasure chest, you'll find the "La Historia E-III," which ranked second on Cigar Aficionado's 2014 list. Next up is the Encore Majestic, crowned Cigar of the Year in 2018 with a stunning 96 points. And the star of the show: the E.P. Carrillo Pledge Prequel, the ultimate cigar, boasting an unbelievable 98 points.
Naturally, the Pledge Prequel was my first pick, the perfect entry into this delightful sampler. Named Cigar Aficionado's 2020 Cigar of the Year and Cigar Journal's Best Dominican Cigar of 2021, this limited-edition gem offers a medium to full blend bursting with red pepper spice, hickory, candy-coated chocolate, aromatic botanicals, nougat, and a rich undertone of ripe stone fruit.
